Senior Scientist

Plans a series of experiments in order to demonstrate the feasibility of an idea or to develop a specific product after feasibility has been addressed.

Develop research programs and manage a small research group, have NIH small business grants and write papers and patents.

An expert in several different fields of research and used as a resource by other R & D staff with respect to their areas of expertise.

Performs patent searches to select relevant publications.

Presents public seminars including background and a comprehensive set of complex experimental results, analyses and conclusions to other scientists.

Maintains an accurate and detailed lab notebook.

Prepare monthly reports.

Writes newsletter articles, manuals, scientific publications and patent applications with minimal assistance.

Acts as product manager for some products, especially those developed by the Staff Scientists.

Maintains or improves current products.

Conceive of new products and ideas and then develop the appropriate set of experiments to test feasibility of the idea.

Prepare a "Project Analysis" for potential new products that outlines the pros and cons of the feasibility of working on the project.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field with at least two years postdoctoral experience, a strong publication record and excellent verbal and written language skills. Background and experience preferred in any of the following: Prokaryotic Expression, RNA analysis, RT-PCR, Directed Evolution, Protein Structure-Function, Phage Display, situ hybridization, or histology.
